WHITE RENAULT OR AZRAIL BEDROS DAĞLIYAN

WHITE RENAULT OR AZRAEL BEDROS DAĞLIYAN You lose someone you love, someone you care about; your heart burns, your insides ache… Even though losing him/her is hard, you endure this separation, this pain with patience and fortitude. Without throwing him/her out of your heart, you try to slowly extinguish the pain in your heart like an ember. Your lost, one and only person now lives in your memories. From time to time, you want to visit the soil where your lost loved one was buried, his/her grave. You warm the side of that cold, stone grave that you find repulsive with the flowers you plant or take. You wait patiently for time to pass, adding the pain inside you to your tears. You know that he/she is dead, and you feel sad because of this, but even knowing that he/she is lying there and visiting him/her from time to time is a balm to your wounds. Only these visits warm and heal your hardened heart. However, there are those who have lost their loved ones; since May 27, 1995, they have come to Galatasaray Square instead of their graves, sitting with photographs in their hands, in order to demand an account from the authorities for their loved ones, whom they do not know where they went or how they disappeared, and whom they have not found anywhere. Thousands of sons, daughters, fathers or nephews who disappeared, some as a result of political murders, some after being arrested and disappeared while in custody... Just like the Argentine fascist junta, the bloodiest of the South American fascist dictatorships... During the fascist junta that took power on March 24, 1976, under the leadership of General Jorge Videla, by overthrowing the then Prime Minister Isabel Peron, 30 thousand people, a large portion of whom are still "missing", were massacred. Despite the fact that "democratically" elected governments have come to power in the country since '83, the wounds of Argentine society are still deep. Those responsible for the massacre, torture and kidnapping of the children of the disappeared, and the “perpetrators of the disappeared” are still walking around with their hands free… In April ’77, mothers searching for their children lost by fascism gathered for the first time in Plaza del Mayo. Since that day, not a Thursday has passed without mothers gathering in this area to protest. Their tireless demands for those responsible for the brutality to be tried and punished have not been met to this day. General Reynaldo Benito Bignone, who was president of Argentina from June 1982 to December 1983 during the military junta period, appeared before the judge. Bignone, 82, who was tried for the torture and murder of 56 people, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on the grounds that he was involved in crimes that led to human rights violations. May 2010 Junta-era intelligence chief Fernando Ezequiel Verplaetsen, who was tried along with Bignone, and former military officials Santiago Omar Riveros, Eugenio Guanabens Perello, Carlos Alberto Tepedino, Eduardo Alfredo Esposito and German A. Montenegro were also sentenced to various sentences. Taking the example of those who gathered in Plaza Del Mayo, the mothers, wives and children of this country gather in Galatasaray Square every Saturday to search for their relatives who disappeared under custody and to hold the perpetrators accountable. This group, whose numbers are increasing every day, continued this action that they have been carrying out for almost 20 years, coming together for the 500th time this week. The families' aims are to have the fates of the disappeared recorded in state archives explained, to have the perpetrators tried; The Turkish Penal Code has regulated the crime of enforced disappearance as a crime against humanity in a way that does not have a statute of limitations, and Turkey has signed the UN CONVENTION ON MISSING IN CUSTODY. The murderers of Hrant, who was brutally shot in the back, are among the perpetrators who have not been found. That is why the Hrant Dink Foundation gave the International Hrant Dink Award to the Saturday Mothers in 1913. You know those famous white cars of the 1990s. Who doesn't remember those unknown Renaults that you remember not with happiness and goodness but with evil? How can we forget those white Renaults with even the license plates that the plainclothes police officers with walkie-talkies used to take Fehmi Tosun away in front of his wife and children? How can his wife Hanım Tosun forget his children, the children who grew up in that square asking about the perpetrators of their father... Even though the Irish band U2 knew about it and put Fehmi Tosun's name on the CD cover they released in his name, the state has not paid any attention since 1995; it has not lifted a finger... When the band's lead singer Bono, who came to Istanbul at that time, met with Hanım Tosun, Tayyip Erdoğan also said that he would talk to her and help find the perpetrators. He did, but what happened was nothing… Those people didn’t even have a grave they could go to, even to commemorate their losses, to cry and relax a little… They cried out for the 500th time to find our relatives. The world heard, but this government still didn’t. They groaned for justice with hundreds of photographs in front of them, their hands on their sides. During the September 12 period, Berfo Ana’s son Cemil Kırbayır was taken she could not return to her house. During this time, Berfo Ana never had her house painted, never changed her furniture. Just in case her son showed up one day and did not recognize his house and returned. Berfo Ana, that tearful woman who said, “I will not die before my son comes”, went away longing for her son; she could not see him, she was saying, “If I knew his grave, I would at least go and shed my tears and pray”; it did not work, she went away longingly… They were beaten, tortured, made to crawl on the ground during these 20 years. In the eyes of the state, they were relatives of terrorists, in fact, they were terrorists too. Now Hanım Tosun is waiting eagerly for the white Renault with the license plate 34 UD 597 that took her husband on October 19, 1995, and for Ekrem, who will get out of it smiling; even though she knows he will not come, she is waiting sadly.
