MIGRATION AND THE GLOBALIZATION OF THE LOCAL
Engin Erkiner
Evaluations about the last period of globalization we are experiencing are generally one-sided. From the standardization of consumption and culture; It is said that brands such as Coca Cola and Mac Donalds are eaten and drunk in every country.
Another aspect of globalization The direction is localization. This localization can be thought of in two ways.
First; Global brands - such as Coca Cola - can change their boxes and advertisements according to the characteristics of the country.
The second one is more important: the local does not stay local, it spreads; It is organized not only in its place of origin, but also in other countries.
Immigration makes the local widespread.
If we take Pazarcık as an example…
People of Pazarcık live in different cities of Turkey and in many countries abroad. Those from this district are primarily organized within the country - mainly in Istanbul. Associations with Pazarcık in their name are established. People coming from Pazarcık gather in these associations and support each other in various matters - such as finding a job, finding a house. In some cases, they collect money among themselves and support any construction in Pazarcık. When an earthquake occurs in the region, money is collected and support is provided.
Pazarcık associations also exist in other countries. In some countries, there may be several, depending on the number of people settled. These also operate similar to the associations in Istanbul. Local bards are brought from the country and night gatherings are held, where local food is eaten.
Immigrated Pazarcıklı A person or family can find a Pazarcıkliler Association in the country they visit and establish relations with them first.
The globalization of local determination is used in this context.
Another local settlement can be used instead of Pazarcık.
Solidarity named after the place of origin Organizations such as "association" and "beautification association" are established. In some countries, their number of members is quite high. While political associations remain empty, local associations are constantly full. It allows people to easily establish relationships with each other, no matter what country they are in. I haven't heard of it, maybe there is. The important thing is that such a superstructure establishment is possible.
