Urgent Call: Refugees Remaining in ZZC Balkova Refugee Camp in Czechia Request Support
Human Rights and Solidarity Association – Refugees in ZZC Balkova Refugee Camp, who reached Switzerland by phone, explain the problems and violations of rights in the camp and demand support from the sensitive public. Those who were returned to Czechia by other states in accordance with the contract are detained.
The camp is surrounded by wire fences and it is forbidden to go out. Refugees are deprived of their fundamental right of freedom. In this sense, ZZC Balkova has prison-like conditions rather than a refugee camp.
According to the information received;
- Refugees are sought naked if no objections are raised during admission to the camp. being dropped. There are those who have been held in the camp for months. Two Egyptian brothers Mahmut Aman Muhammet and Walid Aman Muhammet and Moroccan Enes State have been staying in the camp for 9 months. It has been reported that one of the brothers, Mahmut, attempted suicide.
- Apart from adults, children are also kept in the camp. This is the case with Yunus Akdeniz (16) and Hidir El (16) from Turkey.
- Even those who want to return to their country can be kept in the camp for two months.
- Health care is insufficient. Dental treatments are not provided.
- Food is of poor quality, scarce and not suitable for people from different cultures.
- Shopping in the camp is limited to 10 Euros per week.
- Opportunities are also limited. A limited number of incoming interviewees are kept at the door for hours.
- Refugees, who were kept in isolation when they first arrive, are taken to a ventilation of only 15 m2.
- Refugees are kept in 6-person rooms. The heaters are not working. Clothing and shoes are inadequate.
- Human rights defenders do not or cannot visit the camp. According to the allegations, state-appointed lawyers are manipulated and do not help refugees properly. Of course, refugees are not responsible for what happened in our age when they had to be immigrants. The cause of migration is wars and economic exploitation. Behind all of them are developed and rich countries. These countries are responsible for solving the problems they have created, not to cause them again, and at the same time to relieve the victims. We call out to the government, human rights institutions and all sensitive people and circles and demand the correction of camp conditions and the elimination of grievances as soon as possible. >
