GLOBAL NATION Engin Erkiner
GLOBAL NATION Engin Erkiner
As transportation became easier and cheaper, and not only capital but also people began to move between countries, a concept called "global nation" was formed. What is meant here is this: although the nation has a specific country, it is scattered around the world through migration.
The Irish are known as the first global nation. There was immigration from Ireland, especially to the USA and other countries, at the beginning of the 20th century. The Irish can be considered the first example to show how important the diaspora is for the struggle in their country, even after many years.
People of Irish descent in the US – all of whom had already become US citizens – sent large amounts of money to support the Irish Liberation Army (IRA). Thatcher, then British Prime Minister, asked then-US President Reagan to prevent this, but it was not possible.
1990' In the early 1990s or when the third phase of globalization clearly emerged, the term global nation was also used for Turks. There was a huge migration out of the country. Although this great migration after September 12, 1980 was primarily political, the number of non-political people among the mass was not small. It was not possible to enter European countries without a visa; the only way was to seek asylum. Those who came were followed by others, migration continued and still continues.
After the dissolution of the USSR after 1990, Turkey's Its international position has changed. It has become a strong regional country in the Middle East, Caucasus and the Balkans. Africa, which is rarely seen, should also be added to the list. This prevalence also has an economic dimension.
From the Russian Federation to the Central Asian and Caucasus countries, from there There are companies investing in every country, even the Balkan countries, and organizations carrying out import-export business with Turkey.
In African countries There are Turkish engineers and workers, especially in Tanzania and other countries where construction investments are made. They were also found in large numbers in Libya until before the civil war.
Then come the Latin American countries.
Turkish TV series on television also have a small share in this prevalence. Turkey comes after Hollywood in producing and exporting TV series to different countries' television channels. It is possible to read from various sources that these series are widely watched in Latin American and Balkan countries.
For the first time in its history, Turkey exports qualified personnel. started to do. A large number of doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel come especially to Germany. They do not have economic and political problems in Turkey, but they do not want to live there. Germany immediately gives these people residence permits, so they do not need to apply for asylum. Since English is the language most spoken by university graduates in Turkey, there are certainly some who go to the USA and England. Politically, these people are largely Ataturkists. This migration has a role in the rapid development of the CHP's organization, especially in Germany. Based on the increase in number and spread, strong Turkish lobbies should have emerged in different countries, but this is not the reality.
Turkey could not establish a strong lobby even in Germany. The leading reason for this is disagreement between different political groups. This disagreement is especially seen between Ataturkists and Islamists. This prevalence and continuous increase in number will create its own organization. We don't know how.
A new "Erdogan party", as the press calls it, is being established in Germany. There were attempts in this direction in the past, but they failed. If there is a mass, such initiatives will continue.
As seen in the migration experiments of other countries, those living outside the country They are more nationalist than those within the country.
