THE LEFT AND TURKISH SOCIETY
LEFT AND TURKISH COMMUNITY
19. Why is the struggle of the Left, whose first attempt at the beginning of the century, started with Mustafa Suphi, not succeeding?
The wind of the left developing in the world has always adversely affected the left of Turkey for some reason. It could not succeed, a people who had experienced three military coups, as well as the Turkish society, which could not overcome poverty, for some reason did not embrace the Left!
It was a people's reality that the left could not see or did not want to see, which was under the influence of 1400 years of Arab cultural imperialism.
It should not be ignored that the vulgar materialism imposed on this people from the front should not be ignored, the point that is not understood is that the Turkish society is not a Catholic or protestant society, there are a hundred thousand mosques in this country, three summer branches of sects. a geography! Can a rejectionist understanding of organization be successful, which is imposed on the masses of people who have such a social reality? We should not forget that the successive development of three military coups was of course effective, while the leftist thought, which has been developing in the world since 1950 and which is very closely related to and affected Turkey in particular, has partially evolved towards success.
We must admit that the left caused its regression. It is necessary to analyze the Left, which could not recover after the military coup, the effect of which has diminished since 1985, in a comprehensive and bold way.
This is exactly the point that needs to be queried. Today, there is a left that cannot go beyond the slogan that resembles a secular "sect" and cannot get in touch with the masses of the people. As of the moment, while economic poverty is ravaging a significant part of the people, how can it give confidence to the left sections of society, which are divided into dozens of pieces when they need to be organized?
How much can the leftist masses, which are divided into about thirty left factions and parties, have credibility here? It's hard not to feel sorry for the youth who go after them by giving credit to selfish populist selfish individuals.
The most important point to be made and even questioned is to question the mentality that divides the Left into multiple parties and factions. The Kurdish political struggle is an important example here. As long as they don't care about the culture of consensus by uniting around the minimum commons. They cannot be accepted and reciprocated in Turkish society. This is a reality.
The second point is that it is not possible for a Left Turkey to be successful without seeing the national demands of the Kurds, which cannot overcome the Kemalist understanding. The left that cannot overcome Kemalism can never understand İbrahim Kaypakkaya. Those who do not understand Ibrahim cannot find a response in the left society. The stage the Kurds have reached is an important advantage for the Left. But I know” self-centered mentality has shattered the Left. This is a very broad and questionable situation. The fact that the left is not organized means that the organized Kurds are also isolated. It is indispensable for the parts acting on behalf of the left to immediately question this fragmented stance and multi-headedness.
