ON THE ROLE OF HDP IN BUILDING A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY 1 HDP has a bridge role on the political dilemma of Turkey and Kurdistan. Let us call it "the bridge of brotherhood". This bridge is a chance for all the oppressed. It is not a matter of one's individual freedom of thought and criticism for someone to interpret this project according to his/her own opinion, to take it to one side, to slander it, to attack this project. HDP is a party that says and realises what it thinks. It is a mass party that produces a transparent and alternative idea to the system and draws its strength from social dynamics. HDP is neither a Kurdish nor a Turkish party! It is a party that rejects all stereotyped mentalities in Turkey and Kurdistan. It is a political people's movement that destroys the role and system of reactionary, bigoted collaborators who have no connection with the identity of belonging that has plagued the society in Kurdistan for thousands of years. It is the field of struggle of all oppressed and marginalised people who struggle by producing alternative policies against the statist, nationalist, religious and sexist mentalities that have established their domination and sovereignty over all other identities, especially Kurds in Turkey. HDP is an alternative to the existing system. It is the side of oppressed social dynamics. Some decisions of the HDP may not be to your liking, may be against your individual interests or may be contrary to your thoughts. You may not understand HDP or some personalities and different identities within it may disturb you. Of course, you can criticise, correct, participate or leave. You may even not vote, or you may join other alternative social institutions, organisations or parties. This is very natural. But this does not give you the right to insult HDP, to attack HDP by speaking with the mouth of the state like the collaborators of the system. HDP is a people's movement. It is a party that has thousands of prisoners, martyrs, exiles and pays the price. In this regard, every individual should bow his/her head and question himself/herself. 1- HDP`s fraternity policy is a concept based on the construction of a democratic society of the peoples and determined by the right of all belongings or identities living in society to live freely and equally. Fraternity is not a tyre that everyone can pull to one side! It is a concept of brotherhood in the sense of free coexistence determined by law. If there are no moral and conscientious values in this law, there is nothing to hold on to, nor does it have any meaning as the statist mentality is tearing it apart today. HDP is not a party of the Turkish left or a party of the Kurdish left. HDP has never considered itself as a left party. HDP is a revolutionary and progressive party. It is the political pillar of a social institutionalisation based on change and transformation, shaping itself according to the changing character of society and basing change on society. The concepts of left or right generally refer to the politicisation of certain groups within the system, serving the state, not based on society, seeking to be the butler of the state, and movements aiming to become governments within parties or institutions. For example, who is the right wing within the state? It is a wing consisting of fascist, nationalist and religious groups such as MHP, AKP, IYI PARTI etc. And who is the left wing? It consists of nationalist, Turanist, Ergenekonist groups such as CHP, VATAN PARTY, DP. If we do not use the concepts correctly and define the HDP accordingly, we will only see and evaluate the HDP as the state wants to show it. For this reason, it is necessary to see and define the HDP in the way the HDP defines itself and acts. Those in the HDP are revolutionaries from various nations and peoples (Turkish, Arab, Laz, Yazidi, etc.). They are valuable people who have sided with the Kurds, who have taken their side, and who have risked every price in this regard. They are our comrades who broke away from the state and came to take part in the democratic and alternative social system we are trying to build. Neither do we have a problem of them turning us into Turks, nor do we have a problem of turning them into Kurds. The common goal is a free and equal union. It gives us the happiness of walking together with the determination to meet in common concerns and struggle. To make unfair accusations against these comrades who paid the price together with us and to exclude them is not Kurdish patriotism, but the perception and mentality of the state and the enemy. It is to resemble the enemy, to be clannish or to not understand the Kurdish national-social struggle at all. They did not come themselves, we invited them. Their responsibility is to play the role of "Tajdin" together with us and stand against "Beko". Argesh Ivdil Footnote: These are the characters mentioned in Ahmed ê Xanî's story Mem û Zîn. Beko is the character who does everything in his power to separate the lovers, and Tadjin is the character who asks Beko to pay for the death of Mem and Zin.
